Shhhh....to your mind

As much as our brains are prepared to function in modern urban life... we are also equally connected to the elements of the world that are ancient, primitive, and natural. Learning how to find a way to find some silence from outside noise and internal chatter is essential.

The faster and longer we charge forward trying to get things done the more this habit develops of never fully resting. Never stopping to let everything catch up to the present. One reason we need to let things catch up to the present is so our brains and bodies can process and evaluate what is going on so we are not running aimlessly. Disconnected from meaning and understanding WHY we are going so fast.

When we are disconnected from ourselves anxiety and depression may come our way as an indicator that it's time to pay attention to yourself. Quieting your mind is paying attention. Not running around mindlessly, quickly, dangerously.

How do you quiet your mind?
Quieting your mind simply means focusing on your thoughts or feelings in a way that is slightly detached and different than your typical mode of functioning.

Some ways to do this are:

*Silence...
*Moving your body in a way that creates a repetitive pattern like walking or running *Stretching
*Writing
*Focusing on a guided visualization
*Focusing on your breathing
*Meditation
*Receiving hypnosis

Find a way to quiet your mind. Therapy can be an excellent place to begin harnessing the tidal wave of feelings, emotions, and actions we are part of. Then you can figure out which of these you want to keep doing and what you would like to begin letting go of.

Quieting your mind gives you some time to have more choice about your life. How do you want things to remain? How do you want things to change?

Enjoy searching for some peace and quiet in your own thoughts. It can change everything.
