In childhood, this adaptation is intelligent. It helps us belong.

We begin to organize our lives around maintaining connection and minimizing threat, even when the original danger is long gone.
The false self can appear capable, responsible, or endlessly kind.
It can work tirelessly, anticipate others’ needs, and strive to be “good.”
