Self-talk refers to the internal voice that accompanies you during waking hours. It helps inform you about all sorts of things. It’s a powerful force in the creation of your day to day experience.
In some ways, it’s the narrarator of our internal sense of what is real. It sets the tone for how we think and feel about things.
It’s good to get a clear sense of your self-talk. Is it friendly and forgiving or harsh and critical? Does it have a hopeful outlook? Or is it pretty gloomy?
Even though our self-talk happens privately and internally it flows out into real life. It takes solid form in how we carry ourselves and interact with other people.
To some degree self-talk may have a similar tone to the adults who were in your life as a kid. Their voices were heard before your own was fully formed and able to be more independent. That gives parents and other care-givers a powerful place in the overall concept people have of themselves.
